Our Past

Calvary Chapel Alpharetta is part of the Calvary Chapel Association.

The Lord began using Calvary Chapel in the 1960’s when Pastor Chuck Smith took over as the shepherd of a small flock of people named Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. And the Lord blessed Pastor Chuck’s simple, straight forward exposition of the Bible, going through God’s Word chapter by chapter and verse by verse. His teaching ministry was accompanied by a fresh offering of simple worship music.

The combination of the Word and Worship resulted in masses of people coming to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Soon, many also found that the Bible is a Book for all to study and grow from and that resulted in many young men being called by the Lord into the ministry. And since that time, the Lord has wonderfully and gracefully placed His Hand on the churches and missions of Calvary Chapel around the world, resulting in over 1,600 associated ministries under the umbrella of the Calvary Chapel Association.

Calvary Chapel Alpharetta began in 1977 under Pastor Laverne Campbell. We have met in various locations locations over the years, but we have been our current facility since 2003. We have also had various pastors: Pastor Winston Guinn Jenkins, Pastor David Grubbs, and, since 2014, Pastor Blake West.

Calvary Chapel is simply a group of like-minded men serving groups of people that adhere to a simple philosophy of ministry.

Upward Onward

Our mission comes from Philippians 3:12-14, which says, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

At Calvary Chapel Alpharetta, we are keenly aware of who we were, who we are, and who we are to become. Therefore, we are pressing UPWARD into Jesus Christ, knowing that the pursuit of Him and the application of His Word mobilizes His church ONWARD to bring everlasting change to all peoples.
